LCD is BACKLIGHT February 20, 2006 bob 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I purchased the Vizio L32 from Sam's Club in Feb 2006 for $896 on sale, reg $996.
The LCD is very good especially for the price, I did alot of research and this was the best 32" LCD under $1000 before tax. It displays blacks well but not the best; in bright colors is where it excels; they're absolutly stunning. It has the better resolution (1366X768) and above average contrast ratio and brightness level. The BEST aspect is the LCD is BACKLIGHT. This is sooo important. Good LCD's have adjustable backlighting which this LCD has. This controls how much physical light is used, (this is different then normal brighness adjust which this LCD has as well). You can turn the backlighting off of course, but when you turn it on the screen is so much more vibrant and colorfull. Go to Best Buy and check out the different TV's some with and some with out the backlight. You'll see the LCD's with BACKLIGHT are superior.
Other features include PIP and Split Screen, HDMI input, PC VGA input (they call it 15 pin or RGB but it's the same as VGA), pc audio input, 2 Component, s-video, many standard a/v and composite as well. Audio output to stereo or hometheater. It's 16x9 standard widesreen but also has a variety of widescreen formats and zoom modes and standard 4:3 modes to choose from. The built in speakers are also way above average, there are a slew of audio adjustment option (bass, treble, balance, surround, stereo, mono, all adjustable) and the sound is prob the best I've ever heard from a tv, very good. The L32 stays pretty cool, many LCD's emit a lot of heat and therefore must be well ventilated, the L32 is still relativly cool even after hours of use.
I also use my L32 to play games on my Xbox 360, 360 owners this is a great LCD if your looking to upgrade to High Definition for your Xbox 360. 32" is perfect for gaming, it's big enough to please you but not too big. If the screen is too big then you miss important stuff because you can only take in part of the screen at once. For example you would be looking at something on the left side of the screen but miss whatever is going on on the right side because the screen would be too big to see and take in everything at once, your eyes would be too busy scanning from left to right all the time (gives me headaches). That is why 32" is perfect.
Great Value! December 22, 2005 T. Decker (Tampa, FL) 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I am very happy with this purchase. The Vizio L32 is an awesome deal and fortunately I ordered in time for the $100.00 rebate, which was icing on the cake for the great value of this display. You can buy better specs, but not at this price. I am using HDMI for digital cable input and the Component inputs for DVD, and the picture is outstanding. There are a generous amount of additional AV inputs for various other components such as video games, etc. The product design seems to be very solid and a great form factor for those with limited horizontal space. The sound is very nice from the built in speakers, but I have it hooked to surround sound as well. For its size, the set if surprisingly light (much lighter than a 30" Olevia I bought about 1yr ago). To program other universal remotes (such as your cable or satellite) to work with the Vizio TV, go to the Vizio website at [...] product support page and click on FAQ's to get a PDF of remote code information.
Great value January 18, 2006 Kenneth C. Jones (El Cerrito, Ca) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Vizio is not a widely-known brand name, but after purchasing two sets from warehouse stores, I have come to respect their quality, especially when you consider the cost.
I will buy again for my summer home.
Vizio 37" LCD January 18, 2006 Trevor Walters 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Like another reviewer I buy quite a few things from Amazon, but they don't sell this 37" size, so I bought it at a big box store (where I could also check out the TV. In a word WOW! This is truly a great value. The picture is excellent with the component connection (I'm waiting for my HDMI cable to arrive). And I really don't see a problem with the blacks either (and I'm picky). You can either set your own custom settings, or use 1 of 3 "Vivid" factory settings. In a word, this is one great deal, and I highly recommend the Vizio LCD TV.
Most excellent value for 1080i January 30, 2007 Jeremy Freed (UT, USA) 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
Our household has three Visio TVs (Two of the L32 model and one 20" model). Two of the TVs are over a year old and none of the units have ever had any problems. The native resolution is 720p with 1080i capabilities. This TV cannot support 1080p.
I'm running an Xbox 360 (set to 1080i) with the HD-DVD player and the picture quality is superb. Batman Begins HD is flawless (no obvious blue-screen artifacts like you'll see in King Kong HD). As to gameplay from the Xbox the graphics look superior on this monitor and the size is good (too big of a screen actually reduces efficiency in FPS games).
This unit comes with 2 Component Video inputs, 1 HDMI input, 1 RGB input, 3 composite (RCA) inputs (one of which is also S-Video), as well as a coax input. The L32 does not have a built-in HDTV tuner (although the newer model currently available from Sam's Club or Costco does).
The remote is easy to use and intuitive with one-touch shortcuts for each input signal. The onboard speakers are better than expected, however, be sure to turn off the surround feature while watching TV (otherwise the dialogue is overshadowed by background sounds).
This TV works incredibly well as a computer monitor. My desktop is connected via the RGB input and running at 1366x768 resolution at 60Hz refresh. Text appears very sharp although at the max resolution it's recommended to use large fonts.
Overall this was an excellent value when I picked one up for $1000 a year ago. Now they're selling in the $680 range new and include an onboard ATSC tuner.
